Beginning to loose the will :-(

Featured Replies

After taking the plunge to get my scout gear change issue looked at, which was a complete removal and rebuild and loss of my car for a week, I am beginning to loose the faith in the Skoda product. 1 week on after all this work the gear change feels marginally better, but still not right and today am getting the glow plug symbol flashing and loss of power!!! Ffs

Had a look quick look at car today, cleared fault code. Revving car after fault reset seems to limit car to 2500 rpm and then after couple of mins triggers limp home mode, glow plug symbol flashes and fault code when driving normal glow plug at it and fault codes reader gives following code P0430 to do with EGR. Anybody else had this issue before and can guide me to solution , as just suddenly occurred out of the blue :-(

Had look under bonnet and couldn't see anything obvious, only right hand vacuum pipe to sensor that seems odd as it curls back on itself and pushes against lefthand one.

Egr might need a clean.

P0430 is the catalyst converter isn't it. Or did you mean P0403?

I've had the same symptoms as you with code P0403. As mine is a 2.0 CR with the EGR behind the engine and a big job to do I'm wondering if I may try a clean with it still on the engine.

I have a can of Bardahl EGR cleaner that I may try or I keep hearing about oven cleaner. I don't think I would risk running the engine to clear the oven cleaner but wondered about flushing it out.

Sorry it was a typo, yes  P0403.  I was thinking EGR could do with a clean after reading a few posts on here and it is taking me back to the woes of EGR issues I had on my old passat 1.9 TDi .  The EGR was cleaned twice on that car , quickly by the AA and it cleared the fault , but then came back again.I then did a deep clean and this cleared the fault for few days then it came back, eventually after 2 months I replaced the EGR , but this still didn't resolve the issue. I never did get to the bottom of the issue and it never really affected the performance of the car, which was odd. I think although my Autel Maxi scan 605 is a good OBD reader , it probably needed a VAGCOM scan at the time  to get to specific fault, which I believed was possibly  one of the valves N18 or something.

Anyway I certainly don't want EGR woes again and was looking at the EGR deletion kits, but have a few questions that  couldn't seem to find the answers for on the posts that exist.

So I have a few questions for the forum:-

1.. In 2015 and with the MOT updates, is it still wise to delete the EGR valve ?

2. Reading the posts 2013/ 2014 is seemed the EGR removal  didn't affect the emissions much, but does the EGR removal cause issues with DPF in the long term  ?

3. or Does the DPF filter have to be removed , if the EGR has been removed ??   I know they possibly they  look for the DPF  in the  MOT and people leave the  basic DPF canister  in situ , but does that mean the DPF is destroyed during this type of removal and a new one one need to be put i if ever caught out ???

Also I have  been looking at short shifter posts and wondered if there is a forge or other supplier with a unit to fit the 6spd 2010 gearbox on my MkII scout , as it may assist with the gear change issues that I still feel are there  :-(  I am going to follow the VW shifter reset video first , but thought it maybe a good option  for me also even though it aint a VRS. However all the ones online I have looked at seem to cover Mk1 up to 2006 , and I could not find a specific unit for the mkII  ?   I did read somewhere in  a post,  a guy with a VRS 2012 model fitted one , but had to grind it to make it fit, which isnt what I wanted to do,

Any guidance on the above appreciated

Cleaned what I thought was the EGR valve, but turned out to be control valve!!! Missed your comment Tinbum about it being around the back of the engine. Had to take it into independent to be diagnosed and apparently it is EGR valve and they are apparently now integrated with cooler :-(

All in all it is going to cost me 700 quid which is pretty annoying as it has only got 60k on the clock.

Not a good few weeks at all.

I reset the fault code on mine and took it for a 'gentle thrash' down the road and no codes reappeared. Used the can of Bardahl EGR cleaner on it and its been fine since. Time will tell though- I have an egr ready to fit in case.
