Stop & Go Query...

Featured Replies

Please can you tell me what happens when your Octavia has STOP & GO selected and after a speedy journey, for example motorway driving, and you pull into Motorway Services? Surely the engine will not just switch off without giving the turbo opportunity to cool down..?

Thanks,

W.

As long as it isnt part way through a regen then yes.

Yes...? Yes it will run down?  or Yes it will switch off straight away? If it switches off when one draws to a halt surely here's a golden opportunity for a cooked turbo?

(It would hardly commence a regen during a long fast run on a motorway or autobahn...)

Regards,

W.

Listen for the whirring noise after keying-off. A small pump lubricating the turbo.

This.

Tech has come on quite a bit, its far from bad practice to warm any turbo car down but a modern average power turbo diesel doesnr really require it.

The Mk3 TDI's I believe have a water cooled turbo and an automated circulation system to ensure the bearings dont get deprived of oil and cook when switched off

Wanna have a little wager on that? ;)  We just got back from a 1600 mile trip and it did 2 regens (that I noticed) at m-way speeds.

As above, within my VRS TSI the oil continues to pump around for a few minutea after turning the engine off. Also, during operation the oil temps peak at 110 degrees, which is 30-40 degrees below my old Subaru's used to reach. It was a pain having to run them for 2-3 mins after every spirited drive.
