Remap software

Featured Replies

With all these places now offering remaps, I cant believe they all have custom software written for them. What is it called? where do they get it from and how much does it cost?

Surely we could all join forces and buy the software as a group?

Someone who does remaps would probably license the code from the developing company (such as AMD, Revo, etc.) When they then do this as "custom" code, it's more tailoring the map rather than bespoking.

I've heard prices of about

I'm pretty interested in this OBDII/remap stuff right now, so I've done a little rummaging and come up with the following ECU software links:

FlashBooter -> 'Generic' ECU programming for many makes.

Optican ROM flasher -> access to 100's of pre-programmed ROMs and Flashing hardware.

EcuTek -> Remap software for Scoobs and Evos

Cobb Tuning -> More Scoob remap software.

and a couple very interesting website offering insight into coding and interrogating an ECU over OBDII:

Andy Whittaker on OBDII

OBD Gauge

These links are for information only, in keeping with the forum, I have absolutely NO association with any of the companies above.

Also have a look at www.dimsport.com They're an Italian company that sell basic maps under license to other re-mappers to customize.

There is a HUGE difference between remapping a car, and reflashing a car.

Reflashing can be done by pretty much anyone with a bit of knowledge, the correct tools and access to a database of maps. Hence the abundance of cheap remaps on the market right now.

Depending on the software used (Dimsport's Race2000 for example) some may allow the tuner to "tweek" a base map, but only certain perameters (ie. maps), and often (I'm not saying R2000 does this necessarelly) only by increasing a bunch of perameters by a certain percentage. This requires intermediate skill and knowledge imho.

Custom Remapping a car is a TOTALLY different kettle of fish. I've watched it being done by 2 companies that offer true custom remaps, both using very different pieces of software, and all I can say is good luck trying to work out what all those maps (which incidentally are not labeled) do (depending on the ECU and car, there can be hundreds of maps). IMHO doing a full custom remap of a car needs a hell of a lot of experience, knowledge and backup, which can only be gained by someone who has dedicated their life to understanding the ECU's in question, or someone who has been trained by such a person. There are a few of these people in the UK, but not many...

This is not an advert for any tuner, despite what some may think... It's fact.
