ok - so I can remove the 57mm pipe - do you think I can keep the larger  inlet or should I put the original back on?

Blocked fuel filter???

Peugeots HDi engines have the same issue when fuel filters clogged up,

Give it beans in 2nd or 3rd and it sets off to go then cuts out due to fuel starvation

fuel filter has been changed

Put the standard intake back on and see what happens.

You don't get a mass flow rate drop, just a pressure (and gas velocity) drop, but I think your EMS must be getting confused.

If you've still got the standard cooler - manifold pipe yes give it a try. Actually, do you still have the standard inlet manifold, because if so the restriction where the pipe diameter drops again at the manifold joint will be robbing pressure, mass flow and power.

right - so I spent today on the skoda - swapped out the pd130 manifold to the ve110.

now, all the issues have gone - its picking up quicker, as well - however, it seems to run 'out of breath' after around at higher rpm

With the pd130 manifold, it had more of a lag - probably whilst the pipes were filling up with boost but it pulled more aggressive it seemed at higher revs.

cant I have a mix of the 2?  quick pickup and more aggressive higher up?

Can it not be mapped to suit?

I think that's going to need a new (probably custom) map and/or a hybrid turbo.
