Air compressor

Featured Replies

Hi all,

have any of you purchased either an Aldi or Lidl 3HP v twin air compressor at all?.

If so, what did you think of it, and do you think it was worth what you paid for it?.

Aldi and Lidl are doing these shortly, and whilst I appreciate they are only cheap, I only need it for occasional work for my son to use medium air tools on.

Many thanks in advance.

Phil.

Best to look at the CFM delivery of the compressor against the tools you plan to use.

14.5 cfm, 8 bar maximum pressure, 50 litre tank, would think this ok for weekend use or am I wrong?.

More than okay for weekend use!

Drills are usually 6-8cfm or similar

Would I be correct in thinking it would run an Impact gun and an air ratchet ok?. Is there anything you can think of that it may struggle with?.

An impact gun is 5cm on here, obv itll depend abit from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Try this link for examples

If you find a tool, click on the description it should say the CFM rating for each one

Using an impact gun will be perfectly fine, because it doesn't require a constant supply of air, I mean you use it for a little bit then you stop, then you put it onto another nut and use it for a bit ect. It has chance to build up pressure again in between. If you're planning to use it for things like spray painting, needle scaling and other things where you hold the trigger down for a long time that's where you need a bigger compressor.

In your opinion does this look a reasonable buy for the money? - https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thur-5-mar/product-detail/ps/p/3hp-50-litre-air-compressor/

Cant see where it says about the free air delivery on there tbh.

I bought this one a month or so back for general use in the garage.

Space is key for me so an upright one suited.

Only used it for air dusting and tyre pressures so far but i am happy with it so far.

Bit noisey mind haha.

That Aldi one is the same specification as this one from Machine mart:

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/airmaster-tiger-16510-3hp-50-litre-air-compre

It has the same powered motor, is twin cylinder, delivers 14.5 CFM, has the same size tank but is £94 cheaper. There may be some things on it that have been built to a budget and it may not last as long as the Machine mart one, but that's not saying it won't out live it by 10 years either. Edit: Looking at the images I'd say they are the exact same compressor with different stickers. I can't see any differences.

If you're going to be doing any spray painting you'll have to get your self a water trap. You'll need a hose and you'll have to make sure everything you get has the right fittings on or you'll have to change the fittings over so they're all the same.

I have an 8cfm single cylinder unit now, an older version of this https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-tiger-8250-2hp-24-litre-air-compressor and that is out of puff on the impact gun, so may well go for the twin cylinder unit.

My old unit has lasted 25 years, so if this one lasts half as long I should be OK.

As regards water trap, would this be OK? - https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thur-5-mar/product-detail/ps/p/air-filter-regulator-and-lubricator/

That only says air filter on the website so I can't really tell by looking there but have a good look at the box and if it mentions that it stops water then it should be fine. Some of them are just a paper filter like a car air filter to remove dust which you don't really get that much of anyway. I can't think of anything other than painting that you would need a water trap for,but it is better to have one anyway to prevent your tools from rusting inside.

Yes it's rather good, I've got a branded one which seems the same, I'm more than happy with it, always collects moisture

Cheers guys, much obliged for the info.

Thanks for the inadvertent heads up, I've been fancying one of these for a while, mainly for tyres and drying the bike, but it's good to know it could do a bit more if I needed it to.
