Should the vrs have a glovebox light?

Featured Replies

Another sfq. Mine has the lens in place. Opened the glovebox with the doors open and headlights etc on and nothing! I presume i don't have to switch something on via the columbus do i?? Bulb fault if not

I was disappointed to see no illuminated vanity mirrors. I'm not vain but on a high spec car i presumed it would be standard? I also need to get the passenger mirror dip added on vcds, i miss that a lot coming from a golf.

I will check my car this afternoon when I go home but I think mine does have a light when its open.

Agree on the dipping reversing mirrors.

The could sell it as an option for €100 just like the corner fog lights but they don't even offer that.

Yes, the glove box should have a light.

Mine is dodgy too. It doesn't light up until you start CLOSING the glovebox.

There was a thread about this ages ago, and the switch on the bodywork seems to be the common problem.

Yep definitely has a glovebox light. Hear you RE vanity mirror lighting but guess its one less thing to break!

The dipping mirror requires the memory seats to remember it's position

technically it only needs a memory motor in the mirror. Optionwise Skoda only offer that one in combination with the memory seats. But that's just a marketing choice, not a technical one: Golf, Scirocco etc have the dipping mirror without memory seats, and trust2k on this site has successfully made his dipping correctly with memory function by replacing the little motor.

While I miss it a lot and enjoy the function in the Scirocco, I just resort to changing the mirror manually when parallel parking. The car behind then has to wait a few more seconds. Or I could use the parking assistant which will take even longer.

As for the OP:  yes there should be a light!

Thought the passenger mirror dip could be done via vcds on this thread:-

Enabling passenger mirror dip on selecting reverse

Tested on Elegance, vRS & SE

Controller 52 - Passenger Door

07 - Coding

Byte 4

Enable Bit 2

Enable Bit 3

mirror1.png

Controller 09 - Central Electronics

16 - Security Access - enter 31347

10 - Adaptation

(15)-Access control 2-Spiegelabsenkung bei Rueckwaertsfahrt - change to active

mirror2.png

This setting enables a menu item in Infotainment

(20)-Access control 2-Menuesteuerung Spiegelabsenkung - change to active

Remember, the mirror switch needs to have the passenger mirror selected for this to work, and the mirror only dips a fixed amount if you don't have memory seats.

I thought the memory seat option was A. Too expensive and B. something else to go wrong. Hoping the above will work.

Cheers for the replies folks.

No worries i have it on my Vrs but don't use the feature.

Yes it can, but apparently it won't work properly. The mirror will dip, but only 1cm or something, for it to go really down and come back up to the inital position you need the memory motor as well (that's at least what I have read on all the forums regarding this topic, since I wanted to get it coded).

It's a nice feature, but hardly essential. Just a shame that with all the gimmicks available we can't get this one without having to spend well over 800€.

I agree, really the folding mirrors should have the dipping option as standard.

My previous O3 was an Elegance, and I now have a L&K with memory mirrors. My previous previous O2 was a L&K with memory mirrors as well.

It was something I really missed on the Elegance, but enabling it was better than nothing, it only dipped a bit and didn't come back to quite the same position, but I found it was better than nothing when parallel parking.

Yes, VRS does have a glove box light.  Mine was irratic, found it to be a mis-alignment of the switch striker and the glovebox plate.  The switch is on the left of the glovebox, behind it.  I removed the glovebox to find the switch and it all tested OK.  Refitted glovebox ensuring glovebox was aligned with switch.  Now OK all the time.

Just a heads up but on my Golf MK7 I did a straight swap out of the glovebox light holder/lens & fitted the LED footwell unit in......no problems straight fit!

Part 5G0 947 409 £12 cost

I buy CREE Led 501's at under £5 each from China for the interior/glovebox/footwell/boarding spots/sidelights/number plate lights and code with VCDS accordingly - but the genuine VW items are pretty good value at £12
