vRS owner invited to drive the new fabia

Errr... Maybe because the majority of the people wants to drive responsibly on public roads?? I mean come on you can't be saying this seriously. It's fortunate that you don't see everybody owning a somewhat powerful car exploiting the 100% of its potential during everyday driving. Hopefully, you make such a choice not because of the frequency of driving fast but because of the pleasure that you receive from doing it once a day/week/month/year whatever suits everyone. You also forget that it doesn't have to be all about powersliding or revving it to the limiter, precisely the opposite: Just the fact that a light feather of the gas pedal on 3rd gear pushes you forward much quicker than in an average car is often enough to make you feel nice. You don't have to set a lap record from home to work to enjoy your car.

Im not talking setting lap records or racing everywhere.

But theres soo many people that seem scared of making progress.

Maybe explore its potential every now again yeah, but the rest of the time most people seem happy to follow a car doing moped speed

Funnily, I can't remember when people became so used to 180ps/250Nm in their everyday cars, I would bet it was not so long ago that 120ps was considered a "quick"-ish car.

Up until last weekend my Fabia VRS was our households least powerful car, I bought it as a fun daily driver not really a performance car, and I do hit full throttle at some point most days its gets harder to exploit a powerful car in a safe and proper manner but most of those that do are not dangerous or reckless , in fact the more powerful the car the less reckless you tend to become , but you can still stretch its legs from time to time

You are right cars are getting a lot more powerful but they are heavier as well, back in my youth the Escort RS2000 was a performance car , 110hp but weighed 880kgs, soundproofing and comfort have improved so we are more isolated from the sensation of speed as well

Saxo VTS is a good example of such a car....120/125hp depending on the year but weighed comfortably less than a ton...a power to weight ratio not a great sum less than a Mk2 vRS and comfortable sub 8 second 0-60 too.

I had a mate at uni with one when they were a newish car and for a good while it was standout the quickest car I had driven. Sure ive driven a few much quicker cars in later years (a supercharged Ariel Atom being one of those cars) but I expect it would still impress me today....apart from being chavvy and terribly made.

For that money I would have done toe ad too. So go on then, how scripted was it?

ok so not very .i was called by the reporter matt and he asked me about the resons why i bought my fabia ,what car i had before the fabia , and the only bit of control exercised was with that answer which was a rather nice vw mk 4 golf tdi estate that was remapped and pure evil incarnate ,skoda would have scrapped the video if id have said well i had a vee dub so it was "another car " my mrs is from yorkshire and you can see simply clever light up a evil smile in her face " whats effin simply clever about quids worth of ice scraper in the petrol cap" is whats causing that look ".

i only got about 10 minutes of driving the car and my opinion was honest , i wasnt told to re phrase any part of the test drive and there wasnt time there go pro cameras had ran out of memory and they didnt have any more so it was one take .

the car i drove was apparently a equivalent to mine a 1.4 tdi. ,the cars in both videos look pretty identical
