VRS spare wheels

Featured Replies

Forgive my ignorance ... does the Vrs have a full size steel spare wheel, or a space saver?

I would love Vrs alloys on my combi, but finances are tight at the moment so I was wondering about having 16" steels all round instead.

The Furbie vRS has a full size steel Wheel 6.5 X16..........205/45/16 rubber

But you can't buy them from the dealers.........

But presumably all you Vrs owners buying alloy spare wheels may want to off-load the steelies ??

The vRS spare is a full size wheel. However, it's got lots of yellow writing on it stating no more than 50mph/80kph. Looking at the construction of the wheel from the inside, it's not ideal. The rim and the face of the wheel are joined using a number of welds 4-6 inches long with gaps about the same between them.

HTH.

PS: Read on a bit. Others have a maybe more informed opinion on the construction of the spare wheel and I'm not an expert.

Oh cack ... it started off as such a good idea too :(

There is nothing wrong with the steel wheel. It's restricted to 50mph because you "Might" get a Dipectional Tyre from the Factory and therefor it may run "Backwards" depending which corner the spare goes on. THere is Nothing Wrong with the steel wheel Belive Me :)

Is there a problem with the spare I had a pucture and swapped the spare tyre onto my wheel to save me 90 quid for a replacement one, or is the 50mph limit because of the steel?

As stated, the guy in the factory doesn't know what tyre's going on, or what country it's going to even! The sticker's a precaution to cover Skoda legally, that's it. I had a flat ages ago and had the tyre (W rated non directional conti) moved to my alloy and have done about 8000 high speed miles on it since.

As far as the wheel construction - I'd bet it's the same as the steelies on the base Superb and probably many other wheels out there  There's certainly nothing wrong with it.
