Front Door Handle Not Springing Back

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I finished replacing my window regulator today and it all works hunky dory!! however before i saw the guide on here i was using the haynes manual that told me i had to remove the door handle, which i didn't have to in the end. and now when i go to re fit it, it springs back fine until i add the little block used to replace the lock on the passenger side. it works fine but having it not spring back as its meant to is going to do my head in!!

Anyone know whys its doing this? the central locking and handle on the inside works fine.

Anyone?

It's not fitted properly mate. There is a catch inside the door that the handle isn't latched on to properly/at all. When I fitted my colour coded door handles (sometime ago now) I experienced a similar problem. If you take the handle off you should see the part which the handle need to catch in to and it has probably just sprung back a little bit too far.

Is this easier to do with the door carrier out or if it just a matter of keep trying until it catches right ?

Easier with the handle off the car initially. I'm trying to recall what I did mate as it was a good while ago when I did mine. You should be able to see like a U shape fork / bracket type thing in the door and the prong off the door handle needs to hook behind it. It's this part that will poor your door handle in and stop you experiencing what you currently are.

Sorry I can't think of a better way to describe what to do!

The U shape part in the door will just need levering forwards slightly so you can hook the part on the door handle part behind it.

Looking back at that guide I used, the configuration would appear to be the opposite of what I have described. I hope this is of some help lol its a pain in the arse job.

Lol good look with the shift, that's one thing I don't miss from my old job, working shifts!

You know if you take the handle off and have a nosey in the door with a torch through the hole where the handle goes, I'm sure all will become clear!
