Hello All,

Now that the sun has come out, I thought I'd have a play with my new toy, I put a pair of Osram 12v 55/60w night eater bulbs in my head lamps & when I put dip beam on, it sounds like a motor is searching for something, I don't get the noise on main beam but it is on both lamps. The new bulbs are the same wattage as the old ones, does anyone know what has gone wrong?

Also, can I upgrade the H3 bulbs from 35w to 55w without any problems.

Any help or advice will be gratefully received, many thanks.

On dip the lights can be moved up and down by the vertical thumb ring near the light switch. What you are hearing is the positioning motors. My guess is the potentiometer on the control ring is worn since this will affect both lamps. Try moving the control to a different position and see if the hunting stops. Experiment and report back.

Hello Pikpilot,

Thank you for that, I did read another post thinking that the motor might be faulty but that can't be if they are working. I'll have a play, cheers.

I've now sorted it, I removed the headlamps, took off the positioning motors, removed the covers & gave them a good dose of (I use Asda Multi-Spray) spray cleaner/lube & then gently blew them out

with the air line. Put it all back together & after sorting themselves out they work a treat. The worst part of doing this job was as someone else suggested, making sure the adjuster was screwed out fully

before putting the motor back in the lamp, that meant on one of them, I was sat down with a small screwdriver turning the armature until the gear wheel & centre piece was flush. Job well done. :D
