Driving to Keswick from London best route ?

Featured Replies

hi all

Am driving to Keswick from London later this month (leaving London early morning or possibly the night before and stopping over) looking for the best route that avoids morning congestion

Any suggestions appreciated

Cheers

Ed

to be honest, I would got stright up the M6 to penrith, then to Keswick on the A66, as the other route will bring you off the M6 earlier, and through the lakes, which can be very very busy! (but a more scenic drive!) as soon as you pass lancaster the M6 will clear, not even any rush hour that far up :) (I live near cockermouth, and work in keswick :) )

If you get there early (Rush hour)..There is bad queue off the M6 at the Penrith turn off...You have to come off here for Keswick

Ok thanks for the info

Depending what time you would hit Birmingham on the M6, an alternative would be A1 right up to Scotch Corner, then A66 across to Keswick.

Yes the A1 could work although it often seems slower than the Mways

Large sections of the A1 are now 3 lanes, especially north of Doncaster right up to Scotch Corner, but yes, it is a pain on the 2 lane stretches when the lorries pull out and sit next to each other for several miles playing elephant racing!
