coilpack recall

Featured Replies

Happy days......

Phoned Skoda UK today and the confirmed my VRS is still due the recall. Phoned Skoda milton keynes to book it in and spoke to the most miserable person ever so asked to speak to someone else. They booked it in but due to shifts have to wait 3 weeks as my spare time does not match there free slots (my fault though). They are also giving me a Free safety inspection which will take couple hours as its first time my car has been with them.

I then rang Skoda northampton to see if I can get it in sooner and they can do it next week and will take 1 hour as they are giving it a complimentry valet.....

Phoned back MK Skoda to cancel and they said keep appointment as they will still give the courtesy safety health check.

Thank you Skoda 1 happy customer

not a bad win there!

Hopefully your local main dealer isn't anything like mine or they WILL find something wrong on the safety check. I am really getting cynical in my old age!! Not sure if you have spare packs but they'll only change certain ones. The newer ones P/N ending in D or R wont be changed so if you have these swap them out for older ones.

That was my old local Seat dealer's favourite trick, with the old 'it's just about ok now but...' First time my car was with them I didn't even know they were doing a safety check I booked it in for code diagnostics, they came out with a list of stuff, none of which solved the problem I went in for. Given the recall costs them time and money (even though its a ten minute job, the paperwork they have to do for it takes longer) I'm not surprised they've offered a health check, maybe I'm joining Meaty in the grumpy old men club...

Lol. Grumpy old men or getting wise with age?.....

I see what your saying but any issues they find will NOT be fixed there anyway so if yhey do the work without informing me then happier days more free stuff lol. I am already aware the wishbones need doing but they can wait till next payday and will do myself anyway....

Both!

The whole point of these safety checks from a dealer point of view is to try to generate income from a section of the market that has long left the fold because of these types of tactics. I firmly am of the belief that there is no such thing as a free lunch - that dealership has to pay for itself somehow.

Especially on this type of recall which is still getting claimed on older cars, so is probably somewhat done through gritted teeth.

To be fair we maybe shouldn't tar all dealers with the same brush I'm sure they're not all like that!!!

A very sceptical Ian!

The thing is, most of the ones that weren't and had extremely trustworthy customer service have either lost the franchise this year or been taken over by less trustworthy franchise groups

They are. Lol only joking. I'm sure there are some really helpful and great individuals out there amongst dealer staff. It just gets a bit hard to see beyond their prices, the corporate shizzle and their being driven by targets and the bottom line. But don't let that cloud your judgement ;) Plus considering they're the trained technical specialists for their respective manufacturer you hear a LOT of stories about things not getting done properly from basic jobs to major **** ups. What I say is you run an older car, find a forum like this one, learn to do some stuff yourself and find a trusted local garage/mechanic in case you end up in the ****, or for bigger jobs you can't do.

My car got a free safety check when it went in for the coilpacks.. They deemed it fit for scrap

Now that is a line of approach you don't see any more, don't charge the bloke for work not needed, just go for it and scrap it so you get him in a new car.

You've really got to hand it to some of these dealers, even D1ck Turpin wore a mask. :D

Holy Moley

That is disgraceful really. Mine once went in for a brake bleed after i changed a rear caliper they then phoned me to tell me the car was ready for collection and oh by the way we've carried out an inspection on the vehicle free of charge and my clutch needs replacing! It does have a notchy change i do admit but it's not slipping or rattling. And that was probably 3 years ago now and i still havnt replaced it. They would think nothing of handing you a bill for the same value as the car I'm sure. After doing my oil strainer a few weeks back and seeing all the sealant trapped in it after they replaced the oil pump a few years back they won't be touching my car again.

Aye, wish i could find the sheet they gave me with the list of "issues" and the prices.

Needless to say nearly two years later shes not been scrapped.

List included things like all the brakes even though the fronts were brand spanking

Exactly the same for me last month, they changed all the coil packs. They done health inspection and noticed my fuse box had melted (only just got the car). So, nothing major but it's been fixed and happy with the service they provided. While I was there I had a new hazard switch and CTS installed.

Well I left my car with Skoda in northampton. To be honest I didnt check the codes on the coilpacks but they were very dirty with a light greyish top. When I picked car up it was cleaned but possibly by Stevie wonder and only the outside so would not class it as a valet but was free. I also picked up paperwork which had my name, number and car details on and states only 1 coilpack had been changed so was a little disapointed so drove home but something felt strange I had just gained a fair bit of power from pulling away and at higher gears.... but paperwork also said my car was a 2.0 TDI... its actually a 1.8t vrs

I checked the plugs and they have ALL been changed and have dark grey tops and end with letter D.

Very friendly customer service throughout and just gave me keys after free labour and parts without trying to sell me things or spend money anywhere.....

Very happy Skoda thank you

What's known in the trade as a 'service wash', more commonly known as a waste of effort, wish they wouldn't bother, would rather they hoovered than washed. Anyway glad you got it sorted and saw some benefits. Mine at Skoda in Swansea was a similar experience, if anything they couldn't really be bothered with my being there, friendly enough though, I didn't even get a wash mind.
