Sonax BSD over Poorboys Wheel Sealant

Featured Replies

After a bit of expert advice whilst I use up my pot of Poorboys Wheel Sealant (buying gtechniq c5 next).

Is it worth applying a layer of Sonax BSD over the top of the Poorboys Wheel Sealant or is it just a waste?

Nothing wrong with that. I use BSD to top up my wheels on my weekly wash.

Yes indeed - BSD top-up on the alloys works great as part of the weekly wash routine; so on top of PB should be fine.

As BTS22 said

Poorboys is also a sealant

So adding another is no problem at all

I give mine a spray regularly with BSD

I need to get some Carbon Collective on them soon (Two new cars), then I will still use BSD as part of the wash regime

Okay thanks for that guys. And just to clarify for when I get my Gtechniq c5 would you also apply a weekly layer of BSD ontop of that aswell?

You can do..I had CC Platinum (Similar to C5) on my vRS wheels and regularly sprayed them with BSD

But equally..You dont have to

If I can just jump in here.  Just been searching for this very subject.  I have just ordered some Poorboys to seal my wheels.  As stated elsewhere I have BSD as well so I am hoping I will be able to keep my wheels in top condition.

I am just about to have one of the sets sprayed black or graphite (still not made my mind up) so will certainly need to be able to find a way to keep them clean and unblemished.  I suppose ensuring I have a good clean base to work from is the important thing.

Yes

If sealing for the first time, a wipe with alcohol or a similar product is essential

I have a massive tin of IPA (no not the beer) will that do Chris?

Yes that will work at the correct dilution, or something like panel wipe.

Just seen this...LOL

Yes...as already said...Dilute it 50:50 ...works well in that dilution

I was just going to put it with a bit of tonic water and a slice of lemon. :D

Would Gtechniq Panel Wipe do the job and would you use it every time you seal the wheels or just the first time?

Yes...and just the first time

Great cheers Chris.

Just coming back to this as I hope to have my wheels tomorrow all painted (powder coated).  As they have just been done do I still need to clean them with ipa as they will not have been used on the road?  If so what is it I am cleaning off the fresh powder coat?

In any event they will be having a poorboys doing over before they go on the car and then a BSD on top but I don't want to waste time doing them with IPA if there is no need.

Regards Chris

Fingerprints will leave some greasy marks

I would still use some panel wipe or IPA..you want the sealant to adhere properly

Cheers Chris.  Hope you are not finding life too tough out there. :D

Regards Chris
