1.9 TDI Airbox Screws

Featured Replies

What is the correct screw that's used to hold the airbox lid down on a 1.9 TDI?

Are they available separately?

I ask as when I took mine off, the heads were really rusted and almost completely rounded off.

They have now had it as I had to butcher them to get them out.

As a temporary fix, I used a set of wood screws that are almost the same size and diameter.

They hold the lid down, but the slot drive makes removing them cumbersome.

I wouldn't hold my breath for genuine airbox screws, specific VAG from factory perhaps but not a spare part I imagine.

A scrappy would be a good source for items like these if you really want VAG originals, remember there are 3 makes to choose from and several models in each so plenty of choice.

Or you could check out your local DIY outlet for substitutes.

Don't forget to give the heads a squirt of WD-40 or any oil to help prevent rusting.

I'll just leave in what I've got then.

They work, just a pain to remove

get some philips head self-tapper screws or allen heads from the local hardware
