stereo code help

Featured Replies

A visit to my local scrap yard for non skoda parts revealed a standard head unit sitting in an 07 plate octavia. Now it's a cd head unit rather than my current cassette deck so I'm thinking of taking it. However, the reason i havnt as yet is the bloke doesn't have the code. I've removed it from the car and looked for stickers on the back but nothing doing. So my question is how easy is it to obtain the code for it and will i need vin numbers etc from the car?

Iirc SWMBO found a guy online who gives the code for a vin number. I'll ask her later, sure she said they were on you tube, which sounds a bit odd, anyway I'll ask her. But yes in principle you'll need the vin number and then it's a matter of finding the right person. Do the dealers give that kind of info?

Search on ebay. You just give them the serial number from the stereo and they give you a code. Very cheap and quick.

You say it was an 07 car? Was it a MK1 or MK2?

The dealers do give it but I'm not sure they'll do it over the phone as they'll probably need proof of ownership. Its a scrapped car so i don't own it. There is code services online but i don't know the good from bad tbh. Hoping someone can help I'm thinking about getting it tomorrow.

The dealers cannot give codes out any longer as they never get to see them.

They hook up the car and it connects to a central server that validates the car/stereo and inputs the code.

Just find one on ebay. Only costs a few quid.

Like I said though are you sure the stereo is from a MK1? Must be a late MK1 on an 07 plate.

Its a mk1 strangely enough. I'm presuming it was a private hire taxi. I've already had rear window demister switches and armrest covers out of it!!

Yeah it will have been a Taxi then as they were available right up to 2008 with a 1.9 PD105 engine in.

The service I used on ebay just needed the serial number from the stereo and I had it within 30 minutes.

Ah sorry you've said ebay. My fault. I'll take a look. Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately it was over a year ago now when I got maxidot fitted so no idea.

Just pick the cheapest that's all I did. lol

Edit: No worries.

I'll look in the boot tomorrow but if the scrapped car had a cd headunit I'm presuming no autochanger will be fitted? And will the connectors be the same as mine?

I used a guy on eBay. £10 and code emailed through within a few hours.. That was for a VW radio..

Ebay came up trumps for me too. Turned out it was a technisat unit so not too common. But got the code off the bay. Changer works fine with it as well so if i don't want to listen to any of the six in the changer i can change a disc in the car.
