Door lock loose / pulls out of door

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My passenger door lock was both slightly pulled out of its housing and broken. I got the repair kit and fixed the lock itself (cam and various other bits were snapped in half) but the bolt inside the door that you unscrew to release the lock and screw back in to secure it does not appear to be doing its job

The bolt certainly goes loose or tight but it makes no difference on the lock, I can still pull the lock out with the bolt done up as tight as I can make it. Looking at vagcat, is it part 36c on this image that is probably broken or MIA, or am I looking at the wrong part? And how much of a pain in the bottom to get to it to replace it if so?

Being the passenger door lock if it's going to be a nightmare it's probably not worth it. But if it's just a case of pulling the door card and a couple bolts I can maybe bring myself to have a look at it

Many thanks for reading & your thoughts

There are two screws accessed from the edge of the door. Screw 2 in the pic below turns a metal collar (36c) which engages with the lock cylinder to hold it in position and screw 1 tightens against the cylinder to hold it firmly. Maybe your locking collar isn't working properly or it has come out of position. The only way to get into it all is to remove the door card and door ancillaries carrier.

You can see in this pic how the head of the screw is engaged in a slot in the collar to turn it...

That's brilliant, thanks for your help! I'll take the lock out and see if I can work out what's going on in there, now that I know what it's supposed to look like :-)

I don't think there's a gold clip (ring) on the passengers side.

The gold clip ring holds the lock barrel on the drivers side. The torc screw through the black grommet holds the plastic part of the handle.

Thanks for the replies guys, what holds the lock barrel on the passengers side then if not the gold clip ring?

Possibly my mistake, I was thinking only the drivers door has the lock barrel.

If you have a lock barrel on both doors it is the same.

More than welcome :)
