WATER PUMP LEAKING HELP AND ADVICE

Featured Replies

Hi Guys my car went in for servicing today and had  phone call from my local Garage and to my horror say the water pump is leaking and the cost will be £200!!!!! already on top of the £230 full service.

However car was purchased last February and the timing belt and water were both replaced. Surly it would not  be leaking after 12 months

2.0 FSI 07 plate. Be grateful for any advise on this :S .

Regards Jon

If the timing belt and water pump were replaced last Feb I would return to the garage that fitted them.

The car  was serviced in Brigg in Lincolnshire  and the work was carried out  as part of the purchase have the invoice for it. Unless this garage is telling me porkies. I am now out of warranty with the car purchase. I am based in Telford it would be a load of hassle to drive al the way back again.

Its a nightmare.

just like to  know  is this cost reasonable for a water pump replacement

In order to access the water pump the timing belt needs to come off.

Some say you should never refit a belt once its been off. Some people will also say that one the belt is off you may as well change the rollers and tensioners, i.e. a full cambelt change.

The pump is just less than £100 from a main dealer so 1.5 hours labour (@ £60-£90 / hour) to replace it sounds reasonable.

As above though I'd still be tempted to pursue the garage that fitted the faulty one just over a year ago...

Was it a skoda dealer in lincs? If so its a two year warranty on parts isnt it? If so I would suggest you get a letter from current garage and pursue by email for a refund on the work.

If the water pump fitted was Genuine you may be able to pursue a claim on a 2year manufacturer warranty through the previous repairer. If its an aftermarket waterpump, they usually carry a 12 month warranty, in which the time has now lapsed and you would be lucky to get anything from previous repairer.

At least it's not a later TSI with the different design, independently driven integrated pump/thermostat assembly.

Mine leaked last year & fortunately was replaced under warranty but its a major front end dismantling job and the pumps aren't cheap either.
