Trouble starting my fabia.

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to this site. I'm having trouble starting my 55 plate Fabia Vrs. I was on my way home from work and as I turned into my street the car juddered then cut off. I immediately checked under the hood and found that the auxiliary belt had came off due to a dodgy belt tensioner. So I am presuming the battery had completly drained. I tried to jump and bump start it, but nothing. I have charged the battery for roughly 4 hours, everything comes on the dash as normal, but when I turn the key it just clicks once. We have had the starter motor out and checked. So I am pretty much lost for ideas. Help???

Sounds to me like not enough power from the battery... the lights might come on but it takes a fair whack to turn over an engine.

Don't mean to teach you to suck eggs etc, but are the leads you're using to jump definately sound etc?

sounds like you need a load test on the battery and check for clean connections and earth-------for starters      no pun intended :sun:

Thanks lads. The jump leads are not the best looking to be honest. But the battery has been on charge all night and I have been told is in good working order. When we took the battery out, the leads were red hot tho. So do you maybe think there is a bad connection?

Ive had the same thing when my battery connections were in need of a clean - only a trickle of power to get the ignition lights on, but not enough to turn over the engine (just a disappointing relay type click).

Is it possible the belt has taken out a connection or broken a wire / earth somewhere?

The worrying thing is, I have no idea where the belt went, could it have possibly found its way into the timing belt? But I am presuming the car juddered and stopped due to the battery draining. Don't understand why it would not jump start tho

Auxiliary belt flew off and caused cambelt damage :-( waiting to hear the outcome.

I'm just hoping that miraculously it has not caused any damage to the valves and pistons....otherwise it will be a new engine job.
