Looking for 1.6 parts for AFH conversion

Featured Replies

Hi there, I'm looking for the parts required to do the AFH coversion into a 1.3mpi, I think I'm after

Engine mount

Sand which/ gearbox plate

Wiring loom

Ecu

I've bought a complete polo for the engine, could I use the original wiring an ecu from the polo, if I can who's best todo the wiring?

Cheers Andy

Use a 1.6 felicia engine loom, it will save you a lot of difficult hassle.

you will need the 1.6 flywheel too.

Does the 1.6 loom have an obd port for mapping the ecu?

I'm struggling to find any 1.6 parts on the Internet an there's no felicias in my local scrapyards, do u know of any being broke

The diagnostics port is part of the central electrics loom, it's under the bottom edge of the dashboard on the divers side. The engine bay loom joins to the central electrics loom via a 6pin and a 3pin plug on the passenger side scuttle panel just to the side of the battery, the 2 plugs are pushed into a steel bracket that is attached to the back of the evaporative emissions charcoal canister. However on these magnetti marelli ecu's they aren't flashed via the diagnostics port like on more modern cars, normally the eeprom chip needs to be unsoldered and replaced, there is a geezer on club polo that does them on exchange basis via the post.

if you use a 1.6 felicia engine loom it has an identical pin out to the polo 1.4 AFH ecu except there's no egr valve on the 1.6, but it's a fairly simple job to add another pin to the ecu plug and the other wire splices to the sŵitched live or fuel pump relay live terminal, the only other thing you need to do is untape the plug for the throttle body from the loom and reposition it slightly then tape it back up.

so long as you have a working key and Immo box, which you will have if its a working car! You can easily match the polo ecu to the felicia immo box using vcds.

they are getting a bit moe scarce in scrapyards now but they do turn up from time to time. It won't be long before they dissapear into obscurity altogether. Ebay is a good bet, or maybe some members on here might be able to help with spares.

Does the afh ecu need a chip replaced to map it up? Because I'm looking for 150ish bhp running cams an bike carbs, what's the best way of getting torque out of these engines?

I have thought about going down the omex engine management route but that's getting into a lot of money, that I just don't have unless I sell one of my other toys.

If I can't find a 1.6 can some of the parts from a 1.9 deisel pick up work, does it have the gearbox mounting plate an flywheel? I can probably get the original wiring converted to make it a standalone system with a immo delete, if I can not find the loom I need

If you are running bike carbs you don't need an ecu as such, just a way to run the ignition circuit for the engine.

The adaptor plate and flywheel on the diesel model is not the same, it's for the 'big block' engines.

Is there a thread on here about how to set up bike carbs on the afh engine

Clubpolo is you're best bet for that, the lads on there can tell you which carb jets to buy and give you some pretty concise advise on how to set them up. The other stumbling block you have is finding a suitable manifold for them too but they are available from bogg brothers and they are on ebay sometimes.

I've got a 4 branch exhaust manifold an for the inlet I have friends with cnc machines so should be able to make up an inlet manifold fairly easy. Do you have any engine mounts? I've just read through your conversion thread an it all looks pretty simple if I can find the bits

Got most of the bits for the conversion today, but the scrap yard cut through the engine bearer that I needed with a sthil saw, has anyone got an engine bearer I could buy? It's the only part left that I need
