225 inlet manifold conversion

Featured Replies

Hey. Iv noticed a few people running the 225 inlet manifold. What are the benefits in this? Is it just better for routing intercooler pipework?

Pretty much. They're both small port manifolds and there's no real performance difference between the two. It's also a fair amount of work to do the conversion.

Only real benefit I can see is to get better routing for an FMIC, but instead of more work to route piping you're doing more work for the mani instead.

If it was my money and time i'd just get the likes of a forge fmic for the ease of fitting rather than faff about with a BAM inlet, but it does neaten things up no end if you're doing a welly or similar.

What route is taken on standard manifold with the welly cooler? I want to go stage 2 at somepoint so be interesting to know.

Inlet side pretty much straight down to the cooler. Turbo side up and over on the right hand side of the engine. Harder without some deletes done as there's not much space to work with but doable. There's pipe kits on eBay but most need some modding, probably better to get something made up.

Pic is a random from Google but gives you the idea.

The other option is something like a forge which is very expensive but also very easy, inlet routes the same way as the welly but the turbo side just attaches onto the existing pancake pipe on the left side of the engine - simple simple job but arguably more restrictive and a lot more ££

I like the welly so that's the route I'd go with. Iv done all the pipe deletes my occ would be in the way but I might put the battery in the boot to give me more space to play with. Cheers for the info mate

True but the Forge has been proven to  not be anywhere near the welly or similar FMIC set up of a single inlet/outlet set up.

Forge is a way way easier option as have fitted one in the past , but the price of those you could do a welly cooler 3 times over.

Of course it depends on mechanic savvy to do the job as that could wack up the price of a custom install

I did a custom Welly cooler install and went way over what i needed to do the job, but i wanted near OEM look and as my ocd is bad it was the only option for me. :)
