Quick brake question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick question, I need to lube the rear pads with gold grease (mooing :wall: ), as I only had new discs and pads fitted last October, when I remove the caliper, will I still need to use the wind back tool if still reusing the original pads?.

I would have thought not, but I will be guided if I am wrong on this. Just to clarify, brakes are not sticking and are free to rotate when jacked up, just noisy in reverse - suprise!

When they were fitted, the garage used a non copper based grease that the main agents used which lasted about 4 weeks. Since then the noise has been there to the point I can't stand it any more.

Many thanks in advance,

Phil.

In theory you shouldn't have to but you may have too, if you've not got the tool you carefully use a g clamp with light pressure to push the piston whilst you rotate it with some mole grips ( just don't go mad with either)

Thanks for the reply essexocty, I've done it today, and was lucky, didn't need to retract pistons. I have one of the Sealey multi part brake wind back kits, but just couldn't see a reason to use it as keeping the same pads that were coming out.

The plastilube grease the garage used to fit them was completely gone after 5 months, good old copperease on there now, never had a problem with this on my old cars. Some of my old cars still had traces of the grease 5 years later :giggle:
