Gearbox oil

Featured Replies

Hi, Phoned local dealer about what gearbox oil i need to change it and the cost, Parts fella wouldn't tell me what the grade was or if it was mineral or synthetic ( It's like it's top secret or something), Said i need 2.3 ltrs which would be £60!! (3 ltrs)   and would cost £160 for them to do it, But kept constantly asking why i wanted to change it because it's sealed for life, I told him the car has done nearly 100,000 miles and i would like to change it but didn't seem to get it just got ''sealed for life'', So still no further forward about what grade i need or anything,,,Why is nothing simple anymore?      :envy:

Getting useful information out of a Skoda agents service department is like asking Keira Knightley for a night of unbridled passion with you......you know the answer is going to be no but you'd kick yourself if you hadn't at least given it a try.

I work in an audi main dealer. The problem is the info isn't available to the parts guys, you just get a part number.

So what oil should i be using in the 6 speed manual octavia box,?     And is £60 normal ?

I believe this is the stuff to get G052171A2 and from what I have seen that price is about right for the 'genuine' stuff. As for £160 to do the job, tell them to get ****ed.

£60 sounds about right for 3 bottles, its a secret vag receipe designed for vag gear boxes so there is no spec just a part number.
