fluctuating revs on idle

Featured Replies

Hi-I have had my mk2 tfsi  getting on for 3 years without any problems until today that is.Been doing a lot of short stop start journeys lately and when i checked the oil a few days ago there was more gunk then normal  on the fiila cap ,anyway cleaned it off and put it down to not been on a long run for a while.Today went to the gym no probems and then to the shops, when I was pulling out of the car park the revs went up to 2000 then down to 1000 never normal and have been  fluctuating on idle ever since.Went for a hard 10 min blast and still the same fluctuating on idle after. The car has a stage 1 map which was done just after I got it so dont think it could be that,No lights on the dash,no loss of power and the only thing I have noticed is the revs seem to be slow to drop.Any ideas or pointers on what it could be.

nobody had this happen before?not been losing any water or using any extra oil as well just reving slowly up and down.

cheers Michael

Do a search, it's a common and well documented issue, I think it's the PCV? That needs replacing but I don't know too much about the petrol engines, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to confirm.
