First Trip Out

Featured Replies

As I mentioned in Introductions, I purchased my 2004 Octavia 1.9 TDi Ambience Estate to replace an early Land Rover Discovery 2.5 TDi due to the crippling fuel bills when visiting my girlfriend at Newbury Berks ... one way 225 miles every fortnight, usually about 25mpg at 70-75 mph in the Disco.

this trip yesterday not really representative, as delayed at stop start for an hour on the Staffordshire section of the M6... about three miles in the one hour

Up to then I had travelled the A55/M6 at 70/75mph, then afterwards the same average M6/M40/M42/A34.

I filled to the brim just before setting off, then again at Sainsburys Newbury half a mile from Pams house, and just squeezed 19 litres into the tank ... a marvellous 54mpg, less than half the fuel cost of the journey in the Disco... far quieter of course, I am now able to listen to the radio ,,, :) ... and more comfortable too.

So all in all a far more comfortable journey, and able to use the aircon to keep Gwen my Cocker Spaniel gun dog cool while in the tailback ... I am looking forward to the return journey which will be interesting to compare if I have a clear run ... usually late evening in about a fortnight ... (or when Pam decides to kick me out) ... :)

More anon... Alan.
