Turbo remains

Featured Replies

Dark side put a similar picture on a few weeks ago saying it was a cheep Chinese turbo :D

Never seen that happen before though!

Anyone shed light on why that would happen?

Fine balance issue leading to impeller disintegration. Dynamic balancing requires extremely expensive computerised equipment, something Chinese clone manufacturers almost certainly won't have access to.

This was meant to be a genuine Garrett as well. Crazy.

Good luck fixing it anyway!

Thanks mate been a productive day to be fair, front mount fitted and pipework installed, crash bar back on, old pipes all removed and the ones I need to reuse have all been cleaned in petrol and jet washed maf pipe cleaned and shrapnel now removed, air box all checked and new filter put in, literally ready for the rest of the turbo to come off and new to go in which is being done by vag tech

Excellent, sounds like your doing the right thing with it all.

I'd still recommend cleaning the oil feed and pick up since its an easy enough job and only costs the price of some gasket to refit the sump.

Hutchy, it's not possible for turbo fragments to get into the sump, there is no way for it to happen, the engine is a sealed shut box and the turbo is completely outside it.

If that's happend and its exploded, I'd say it is possible down the oil return, it's quite thick.

Regardless of that, it isn't why I suggested removing it. I've cleaned all 3 of my fabias now mileage ranging from 60,000 to 130,000 and all of them have crud, some metal fragments, carbon type build up? Thick sludge inside and silicone remains.

I'm sure you've removed and cleaned plenty in your time, (particularly petrol audis in my case for low oil pressure lights) are you telling me it's a completely pointless exercise?

I'm picking up a new oil feed pipe, what's the oil pick up? Vag tech are going. To drain and inspect it, they said the turbo shouldn't have got into the sump but will have a nose when draining it I feel like most of the hard work is done lol shouldn't be much for them to do

Fairy nuff, I misunderstood your point.

The oil pick up pipe / strainer is the first thing the oil goes through before getting to the pump. Over time they clog up. Nothing to serious but I always clean mine anyway for reasons I've already said, costs nothing to do and can only be good for the engine.

Two different types here.

This one has a piece of snapped dip stick in it!

I've also removed the foil lids from oil bottles which have been dropped in without noticing before!

Thanks mate will get vaguely to rip of sumo and clean it anyway and get them to do the pick up as well, I've got a few things to finish tomorrow then I need to crack on and study I've fm got 2 exams this week should only be half hour job at most so worth doing, I just can't wait till the things sorted and back on the road I'll put pics up once done and coilovers go on

When my turbo went darkside recommended that I take both manifolds off and run the car for a few minutes to clear any crap that may of ended up I the cylinders.
