skoda vs VW

Featured Replies

Hiya.

New to the skoda scene here and complete newbie when it comes to modding etc.

Used to vauxhall!

By reading through a few posts here it seems that VW golf parts will/may fit my Octavia mk2 vrs Le? Sorry if been asked before.

So you get the gist, the likes of brake discs. Anti roll bars so on, would VW fit mine also?

Thanks.

yes, lots of the parts are interchangeable.

I have a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and upgraded my front brakes from 288mm to 312mm using parts off a golf GTI.

My last 2 sets of wheels were from an Audi & I have another set waiting to go on when my next rego / MOT is due in june.

I've fitted alloy lower control arms off an Audi S3

I'm about to fit some leather seats off an Audi S3 (when I get the correct airbag connector)

lts of other stuff is either a direct fit or fits with minimal modification - you just have to do your homework.

So does the vrs share with mk4 or mk5 golf and mk1 or mk2 s3?

Octavia 2 = Mk5/MK6 Golf plus similar age Audi A3/S3 and some A4 (and larger) parts.  There are also some common parts with Passat/Superb.  VW group cars are like big mechano kits - heaps of the parts under the skin are interchangeable.

I forgot, I also have

Golf R intercooler

IC inlet/outlet hard pipes that were advertised as Golf MK6

Golf MK6 GTI Forge catch can

GFB DV+ advertised as being for a MK6 GTI

Koni Yellow dampers advertised as GTI

Audi R8 coil packs

The vRS MK2 is basically a Mk5 Golf GTI in drag

Cheers for the info. Surprised about all that to be fair. Didn't realise how much skoda shared with the Germans etc. Thought it stopped at engines! ;)

I've described it as a golf with a big bum and an ugly face

Don't like the use of the phrase "....in drag".

That would imply that the car isn't beautiful. I still rate the looks of the Octy over the Mk5 Golf.

True, & the Face lift Mk 2 uses Golf Mk 6 parts, especially instruments, radio & climate controls, & engines.

VAG like it like that......they would not sell many Audi or VW cars if everyone realised they share 90% of their parts with Skoda/Seat. They don't even bother with different part numbers across their brands for the interchangeable parts.......notice how all parts under the car and under the bonnet have VW/Audi symbols stamped on them.

I'm very thankful the parts are interchangeable across the ranges, its massively helpful when shopping around for the best deal on spare parts..lol

Not looked under my hood properly yet only had it 2 days. I'll be under their soon!! So is it only certain audi parts that fit and VW vice versa? Just a chase of matching part numbers I guess?

Not using the word drag derogatory, I did have one of the first Mk2s for 6 and half years and yes it is better looking  2012-09-04135403.jpg2012-05-09130344.jpg

Side looks great, bum looks great, front looks... meh!

Love the hatch practicality and the space is something else - reminds me of a ST220 I used to own, albeit better screwed together.

anyone know where i can buy the hardpipe kit for the golf r intercooler?

One of the biggest red flags that they're basically working on the same machine is the well known Climatronic button mod: pop off the half moon upper blank button in the centre of the three climatronic dials, cut the 2mm black tag bit off and you've got an on/off button which is on the VW range. The electronics are still there cos it's almost the same unit (but no led), but by sticking that tiny bit of plastic on to stop it being depressed, VAG alter the working for no apparent reason other than to give the VW's one more trick.

Mad!

Oh, and I've recently added footwell lighting, which is basically from a golf and never from factory in an octy. The attached plugs all fit perfectly into the existing loom stuff, just click and go, and the programming is even there so you just plug a diagnostic in, tell the brain it now has footwell lighting, and away you go!

Mad!!!

Two excellent slices of info there buddy. This well known climatronic button mod why have i not heard of it!! Is that to knock the aircon off? I thought that's what eco mode did. And footwell lighting sounds good where is the plugs for those? Bit off topic mind!!

So would a head unit from a mk5 golf fit a mk2 skoda octavia vrs

  • 11 months later...

I'm assuming the climate control from a MK6 gti would work in a MK2 Octavia VRS? They are the same shape and button layout it the same but I think the GTI controls look a bit a nicer. Thinking of swapping them

But late, just got a ping off an earlier message...

But yes, it just makes it function like an on/off. If you want to be really anal, get a vw climatronic button instead of cutting the tab on yours and it says on/off on it, just won't light up as there's no led behind it.

Wiring loom off ebay for about 20 quid comes fully prepped, from memory, just have to plug it into the correct tiny single input on the existing fuse board and attach the other side to an earth anywhere.

It's completely self lopping so doesn't interfere with any other looms, plug and play!
