Auto relock question

Featured Replies

OK so I left the wife in the car the other day to get a parcel on leaving the car I locked the doors (automatic reaction to leaving car), realised what I'd done and unlocked the car again. However I forgot the auto relock and the wife didn't know about it at all so when I got back to the car I found a VERY freaked out lady inside a locked car. It appears that when the doors relock in this fashion you can't open the doors from the inside :(

Is there a workaround for this ? Such as disabling the autolock with a vag-com?

Many Thanks

Barney

Opening a door would have de activated the auto lock. Failing that dont lock her in the car..lol

Pressing the button twice would also cancel the dead locks so she could get out.

Interesting scenario. If you had been a gentleman and opened the driver's door after unlocking the car again and said 'sorry love didn't mean to do that' then it wouldn't have happened. only joking.

In my Megane the unlock button works from inside the car if this happens. Renault have been sensible about it though in that first push of the remote locks and second push deadlocks. Thus when the car auto-locks it doesn't dealock. I think Skoda is the opposite way so the auto lock deadlocks thus preventing use of the unlock button inside the car. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way of preventing dealocking on auto lock although you might be able to turn off auto lock completely through VAG COM.

The unlock button works without the keys in? Whats to stop someone coming up to the car after its locked then, sliding a thin rod into the car and hitting the button? (not that i've ever done this to gain entry to a car you understand).

Nothing. That's why I always push the lock button twice to dealock if i'm going to be away from the car for more than a couple of minutes or if there is no one in the car. Autolock on the Megane is a sort of precaution that just secures the car as in all likelyhood you will be unlocking it again soon. If you actually depend on autolock as you say it won't protect you from an expert thief armed with a coat hanger.

On the Octy I, if you are locking the car with the remote c/l then the first click/ press of the lock button will lock all doors and activate the deadlocks. By pressing the button twice inside 10 seconds, you are diasabling the deadlocks, not the other way around.

so when does the autolock activate? mine seems to be playing tricks on me, sometimes it locked itself other times it didnt, I had assumed it didnt have an auto lock and it was just the lock button being pressed accidentally while in my pocket? confused!!!

auto lock is 30 seconds after you've pressed the unlock button but not opened a door.

ah not opened the door! so its not trying to send me mad then! phew.

Interesting to read the 2 press deadlock thing, I often press my key fob before going to bed to check the car is locked. I assume I wont be un-dead-locking the car?

I do the same, you won't do anything to the deadlocks if it is after 10 seconds i think. Anyway, try when you get home, mine flashes the indicator once for a full lock (incl. deadlocks) and twice for a lock with deadlocks turned off. Give it a go.
