Cheap chips on ebay

Featured Replies

There are quite a few offers of cheap tuning chips for PD engines on Ebay these days. I dont know how you would describe these things (so didnt do a search here) but they are clearly not a remap for the engine ECU or a box that overrides the ECU injector signals. I think they are designed to fool the ECU but altering fuel temp data input signals from certain sensors. For someone wishing for a mild increase in power (+20BHP) so that their clutch/tyres etc last a reasonable length of time they seem just the job at approx

Any links? I'd like to have a look before commenting.

My chips are only a quid. I doubt they are as cheap as them.....:D

Right on cue. I was going to direct him to you !!

These tuning boxes are resister based circuits which fool the chip into delivering more fuel. They will make the engine management light come on with a fault code (Can be switched off with VAG COM) Yes they can be an affordable solution. Personally, I'm not too sure :thumbdwn:

The resistor (analouge) ones are cheap and work up to a point (a bit rough and ready) some will put the management light on but not all of them, the digital boxes do roughly the same thing but a little better for around

Ran one of these analog boxes on my 2001 PD100 Fabia for about a year (20k miles). Didn't have any problems with it and the people who serviced the car didn't comment on it (even sailed through it's MOT!). Cost me 30 quid, but can be DIY'ed for about 5 quid if you're that way inclined and as such, I couldn't justify the extra expense of a digital box for a very marginal gain :D

Be warned that on newer PD cars, it may log fault codes in the ECU and cause the check engine light to pop up, but these are not problems and can safely be cleared with VAG-COM :D
