Rubbing Noise, in gear but no revs, worse when breaking.

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping someone can help. I have a 2011 Octavia, 1.4 TSI with 40k on clock, I've had it around six months and bought it direct from a main dealer. Overall I'm very happy with it although there is one issue thats causing some concern.

When I am in gear and driving along (say 30 mph) and take my foot off the accelerator (as if to slow down) I can hear a slight metalic rubbing noise that is consistant with a wheel turning, it speeds up if I am going faster, and slows if going slower. When I apply the break the sound is much more pronounced. Howerver, when I take the car out of gear the sound dissapears, even when i appy the break the sound has gone.

I thought it might be something to do with a wheel but why does the sound go when its taken out of gear, the wheel is still turning?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
