Footwell oil/fluid leak

Featured Replies

Morning all

Spotted something a little concerning this morning as I got into the car - a small oil/fluid leak that had formed at the top of my rubber mat in the drivers footwell:

To put this into context - the small dark patch at the top of the mat is directly between the clutch and brake pedals. I've touched the patch on the mat and it's definitely an oily substance, so I'm thinking either brake fluid or power steering fluid - wondering if the steering rack is leaking or something? Has anyone else had anything like this?

Anyway - going to keep an eye on it for a few days to see if it develops before I book it in, just in case it was a one-off like a blob of grease that came off the rack or a pedal as a result of things warming up.

This is worrying this i've seen similar pictures before on a Rapid on this forum but can't remember which user it was. I'm starting to get worried now as my power steering seems noisier than it was when i got it and its got a kind of graunching noise when i turn the wheel at low speed!?!?!?

Is this a massive issue on the Rapids we are about to run into?

My steering seems to make a noise when turning at speed as well like WillJohnson mentioned above, keep us posted and I'm going to check my foot well by the pedals when I go out to the car now too! A little worrying!

Now you mention it, I seem to recall reading a post on here about someone else having the same issue, but can't remember if it was a Rapid (or when).

Was def a rapid I just cant find the thread now :-(

I think we've stumbled across a major problem here with the Rapid...

" Low levels can cause damage to your power steering and is usually accompanied by a low grinding noise when fully turning the steering wheel at slow speeds "

I think i'm seeing the beginning of this. Gonna check my power steering fluid ASAP!!!

And i've got black carpet mats so I will never see any leaks!!!

Steady on - I'm the last one to make excuses for the manufacturer, but I don't think this is at "major problem" stage yet based on the evidence available (I don't even know for sure if I have a problem yet) - has anyone else had the same problem.

I think it was Skoda 1982 that has this problem. I think that's his username.

my Toledo is going for its first service, but, there is now no leak  visible to show them.

I suspect that its oil coming off the rod of  the brake pedal were it connects to the  servo, as I traced a slight run coming down a  bracket from that area.
