Would a Farecla G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt remove wax or sealant?

Featured Replies

I'm not a keen 'detailer' but use Sonax Paint Prepare followed by SONAX XTREME Protect + shine before and after winter. I then wash the car occassionaly with a neutral car shampoo which does not remove this coating.

However I often have tar spots on the car and wondered if using a Farecla G3 Body Prep Clay Mitt during these interim washes would be okay i.e. it wouldn't remove the Sonnax?

If you are just trying to remove tar then I'd recommend using a tar removing spray. Using a clay mitt to remove tar will likely marr the paint, it won't do the clay mitt much good either.

+1 on the above. Most of use will use both a tar remover like tardis and a ferrous remover like iron x before we use a clay mit, so you'd be better off doing what NM suggests and top up the area locally if needs be afterwards with your preferred LSP or QD.

What does marr the paint mean?

Cloudy dullness in patches, also happens when laying & not using enough lube for example. A mild polish or cleanser will sort it, but best to avoid it in the 1st place.

Marring is when you inflict patches of very fine scratches in the same direction. They normally machine out easily but any thing that requires less contact from you with the paint is always safer

Less chance with...." Plenty of lubrication"......, said the Actress to the Bishop!!

I use car shampoo with Farecla mitt...their own or another QD works pretty well too

Yup very true. Always safer to remove as much contamination with chemicals first though then your less likely to spread them with the clay bar or mitt

Spot on

Slightly off topic but I'm going to give a g3 clay mitt a go this weekend on the wife's car. Probably won't be able to see if I marr the paint though as its that bad already ;-)
