Simpleton's sub?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I used to have an Audi A3 which had a sub installed in the rear nearside luggage compartment. The cd player actually sat in a steel cage on top of the sub housing, which was curved to fit over the wheel arch.

I'd like to get a sub in the Octavia (estate, Mk I, early 2004 model) and I'd like it to be hidden in the side areas and not in the main load area. I'm not after big power or super sound, I just want some bass to help hide the tinny nastiness I get from the standard speakers.

1. Is this easily done - do I need to run extra cables, etc., and

2. can anyone recommend a simple sub?

Many thanks,

B

Skoda do a plug-in active sub which is a rebadged Blaupunkt - will probably do what you want, though it might need an extra cable running down the side of the car (not that tricky to do though!).

Rob.

I went for one of these : http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4500&cadid=8996c6b94abd41ef80b65080be4574ff

It won't make your ears bleed or anything like that but it's nice and compact, i think it would fit in the false floor of the estate Octy or even one of the side voids at a push, mine is in the rear footwell cos my load area is full of crap. It needs the usual 12v power supply and a power signal from the powered aerial output on the HU.

Oh, and it comes with a full wiring Kit too.

Let me know if you need measurements etc.

Thanks guys, I'll check those out some more. I might start by giving Skoda a call and see how big that Blaupunkt one is, and whether they can tell me how it should be fitted, etc.

Called local Skoda place and they don't seem to know of any Skoda-supplied subs. Has anyone ever seen one, or found that their system has a sub included when they bought the car?

I don't have audio cabling skills so would get some car audio place to do the fitting. Would I be risking damage to trim, etc if i didn't do it myself?

Rich1068 recently fitted one in his Octavia hatch, try dropping him a PM with a pointer to this thread. I also think his posted on it before so a search may reveal more info.

Ok, I think I found the thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12849&page=1&pp=15

Still waiting for a return call from Skoda place right now, which will tell me whether they still supply one themselves, although having read that old thread (a year old now!), the chances are that any sub they provide can be found cheaper elsewhere.

That would just leave the issue of whether I can fit it into the side of the luggage area, and who would do that fitting..

Thanks,

B

Many thanks to Rich for his help on this one.

Looks like that Blaupunkt one is the direction I'll head in - it still seems to be sold and I found a local dealer via this site: http://www.blaupunkt.co.uk/7606305000_main.asp

I need to call them and get a price, then see if I can find a car audio place who will do the fitting...

Cheers,

B
