Golf GTD estate

Featured Replies

V interesting....supposedly to be only £695 more expensive than the hatch.

More interesting still....in the new brochure whilst it states pricing and soec to be announced shortly.....it gives a spec run down for the GTD in any case and is suggestive the following kit is going to be standard fitment....

18' nogaros (was a rumour it would only get 17's)

Sport and sound (optional on hatch)

Winter pack (optional on hatch)

Keyless entry (optional on hatch)

Discover nav (optional on hatch)

Makes it better specified than the R!

Of course its probably a mistake and believe it when i see it....but if true could represent relatively good value compared to a vRS TDi estate.

Looks heavy around the rearmost pillars. IMHO.

Magazine articles this week say like the Golf R Estate the Golf GTD Estate will cost just £695 more for like for like Spec.

ie,  Same Spec of Estate version of GTD as that GTD Hatch.   Golf R Estate same spec as Golf R £695 more.

So is that wrong?

Read the latest brochure....either its wrong (I suspect it probably is but why include some spec additions) or those buying a GTD estate might do quite well kit wise.

I prefer the hatch and would probably be what id order regardless...quicker for starters.

Quicker at 70 Mph or up to 70mph than the other,?

what do you do with the 1 or 2 seconds saved each time you accelerate,  or before you are held up behind the car in front.

Depends what you value. It's a golf hatch with a bigger boot so much smaller in the cabin. I test drove the vRS estate back to back with the golf gt estate. Had both for a week and was surprised at the difference in size and found it much easier to get comfortable in the octy.

And I'm only 5ft8!

"If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen",

we really would be in the sharn.

Magazines are quoting wrong prices.....................GTD estate is cira £695 more than GTD 5dr hatch with same gearbox.....................R estate is circa £1,340 more than 5dr R hatch with same gearbox

Id missed your literal posts George :-)

Yes it is all rather academic but the GTD estate is to all intent and purpose the exact same car, albeit with a large rear overhang (that according to motoring press does little or anything to affect how it drives).......but more pertinently its 100kgs heavier.

Just for that reason the hatch is bound to feel that bit more spritely and is the one you'd buy as a true warm "diesel" hatch. I think those that buy estate will only do so because they want/need the extra space as its slower, IMHO less attractive and a touch pricier too.

Strangely with the Octavia id always tend to go vRS estate because both Mk2 ans Mk3 Ive just preferred the look of the estate version.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder & I prefer the look of the MK7 Golf estate as way better than the MK3 Octavia & previous MK5 & MK6 golf estates...............

As for speed & weights, the difference between the hatch & estate GTD is n/a at the moment, but for say a GT 150ps 2lt diesel

Estate DSG = 8.9 secs, 1454kg ULW

Estate man' = 8.9 secs, 1436kg ULW

3dr hatch DSG = 8.6 secs, 1375kg ULW

3dr hatch man = 8.6 secs, 1354kg ULW

5dr hatch is 30kg more than 3dr in both gearboxes so 1405kg & 1384kg respectively & 0-60 is the same according to VW.............

So only a circa 52kg weight increase & 0.3 second loss................whoop -ti-do............

EDIT

here's mine.............not too heavy at the rear in my eyes.........
