vRS Damaged by hit and run driver

Featured Replies

My vRS is only 7 months old and yesterday while parked in a car park in Guildford Surrey someone has driven into it and driven off!!!

Cannot explain how angry I am they are total scum. Have checked for CCTV but the store do not have any.

The impact has caused deep scuffs in the rear bumper and to the rear light cluster have  been quoted £1300 to put it right!!!

I saw someone a couple of years ago reverse into a new C-Max in Tescos carpark. It was a heavy hit, the driver must have known, i was parked next to the c-max, so got out to approach the driver, who looked at me and wheelspun off, i took his plate, noted it down and wrote on a scrap of paper saying what I saw and left my phone number and left it under the wiper. A few days later I get a call from an insurance company accusing me of reversing into the c-max! I explained but they said i was making it up and it was me. I told them to ask tescos for the CCTV and if they wanted to take further action against me to contact the police. They didnt, but it would make me think twice next time before providing information.

That is shocking, so much for doing a good deed.

I feel for you fella, people who simply drive off after an incident like that make me furious, hope you find a slightly more competitive price for repair somewhere...

Another reason to get a couple of in car cameras. There are some scum out there sad to say

Someone did this to my Dads A5 Sportback he had a couple of years back.....they'd reversed into the bottom of the rear door, sill and rear arch so not a straightforward fix. Naturally got fixed like new but it cost him.

Ffs, some people have a total disregard for anybody else and their property, makes me livid  .

When you work hard and get something for yourself and then some total lowlife scumbag comes along and wrecks it really pi**es me off.

Even car park "dinks" annoy me, there's no reason for it if people just had a tad more respect.

My wife has now started calling me a Skoda parker again (she did the same when I bought my Mk1 VRS nearly new), I park as far away from the day to day parking "riff raff" in places like Tesco, Asda, town centre multi-stories (top floor please) etc.

When I had my Sapphire Cosworth somebody in a Range Rover Vogue parked next to me in a local Tesco and put a crease in the drivers door (the white paint from said car was in the crease, and exactly in line with where the door would open), I went into the store to see if there was CCTV cover of that area but there wasn't, I then waited half an hour for them to return but nobody came.

I'm afraid to say my frustration got the better of me and I took it out on the RR passenger door, needless to say his bill would have been considerably larger than mine  :notme: !

I was young and hot headed then though.

Now I'm old and just as hot headed  :D !!

Someone has put a small crease in the back door of my Elegance, being white and that it hasnt damaged the paint you have to look to see it but like everything when you know its there it does bug you.

Whats more annoying still is that its so unnecessary...to do the damage inflicted takes quite a bump...just a light glance of a door (which I am sure we all do by accident ver occasionally) wouldnt havw even left a mark. Whoever did it knew full well they'd hit my car....of course perhaps it was by accident but its more likeky whoever did it just didnt give a toss. I think if Id done it knowingly id probably leave a note appologising and offering to sort/pay for a dent magician or something of that order anyway.

Im not bothering to fix it though as I know full well as soon as I do some other tool will do the same to it elsewhere.

I run my front/rear dash cams 24/7 for this very purpose. They are great for recording accidents whilst driving, but also very handy if something happens when not in the car. Skoda's provision of a permanent 12V (even with ignition off) is very handy.

How long can you leave them running though before they flatten your battery?

I'm considering a dashcam when my VRS gets here.

Mine were fine after leaving them on during a 2-week vacation (zero car usage). Modern car batteries hold >50Ah of charge, whilst small dash cams draw far less than 100mAh. So long as you drive the car for an hour or two every week you shouldn't notice the drain.

That's fantastic thanks for the quick reply.

My car is sometime not used for a couple of days depending on my days off so as long as that's not going to flatten the battery then all is good.
