Worn bushes?

Featured Replies

Which bushes are prone to wear in the front suspension? The car is a 2000 Ocatvia estate 110hp TDi. When going over sharp bumps or holes there is some sounds from the front suspension.

It might be the rear bush on the TCA, it didn't look its best. Common wear?

Lower wishbone bushes can split, you can see them pulling out of the arm.

ARB bushes wear as do the links (mainly on vRS though)

Top mounts also leak and go squishy.

i do hate a worn bush, can get very sore

Ive just replaced my ARB bushes as i also had a knocking noise when driving on ****e roads.

Will cost roughly 20 quid for the parts + labour.

Cars even more a pleasure to drive now (Octavia Vrs)

Of course.. Which anti-roll bar bushes wear, the ones at the whisbone or the others?

Do somebody have a drawing of the front suspension? Is the ARB 21mm og 23mm? Polyurethane bushes might be the ones to fit since the original rubber wears quickly.

So it is the number 3 bushes that wear?

(3) are the ARB bushes.

(2) are the wishbone bushes that also give problems especially on cars with bigger brakes.

A lot of people start by getting ARB bushes done (#3 in the diag) and later have to get wishbone bushes done (#2), but often the wishbone+bush is done, as it's a hassle to get old bushes out of a wishbone in order to fit a new bush into an old wishbone. Wish the wishbones only costing something like 35 quid, most people go the easy route. I know I did on my old A3, and that was partly because the bushes had lasted almost 80k miles anyway, and the specialist I used didn't like the idea of having to get old bushes out. All depends on how much you want different bushes in there.

It was the ARB bushes, they were worn to a bigger diameter than the ARB. Got some new ones in, and the front suspension is now lovely. No noises from either front or rear.
