Amundsen questions

Featured Replies

Looking at this as they are a little cheaper than the Columbus. Does anyone know if it will give me the directions on retrofitted maxidot without further upgrades? Also will the non + amundsen be upgradeable later to Bluetooth when funds permit?

If you have a pre-FL car and maxidot then no it won't work with it.

You can install a Bluetooth module yes.

Cheers Phil, Is it just that pre fl maxidot are not capable or limitations of the car itself? Would the Columbus work?

The pre-FL maxidot uses a different communication method to the FL.

The Columbus can be switched between the two whereas the Amundsen only works with the new one.

So yes the Columbus definitely works.

The "+" is nothing to do with the feature-set of the unit. Non + was based on RNS310, + was based on RNS315.

To check for bluetooth, there's a white sticker with "MAC Address" on it. If the address is not 00:00:00:00:00:00:00:00 then you have bluetooth. :)

If it has round black connector on the back, then it also has DAB too. :)

If you find the thin black rectangular connector, it also has the video interface, which will also let you fit a reverse camera ;)

Be aware though: the three options can come in various ways, so don't rely on one to have another.

Display wise, there are two protocols DDP and BAP. Pre's use DDP, FL's use BAP. Amundsen is BAP only, Columbus swings both ways. (oo-er)

However, if you get a Columbus, it might need a little coding as it doesn't do both at the same time. (Mine certainly didn't)

And I believe that Phil is half right: you can "upgrade" to bluetooth, but it's a separate module to the Amundsen. Advantage: should you upgrade to Columbus later on, the unit will work with that too. Disadvantage: not a cheap way to go.

Whilst looking at something else I found this.....

....you'll need the mic loom (cheap enough from ebay or Eddie), but seems a bit of a bargin at that price, to me anyway,

ADMIN NOTE:

No, it's not mine, nothing to do with me in any way, shape or form. Just helping a fellow Brisky member along the path. :) :)

I decided I am going to wait until I can afford the Columbus and bluetooth kit, I really want the navigation on maxidot as I have little else on there.

NAV display on Maxidot is OK. Basic but usefull.

I prefer MPH displayed on Maxidot.

On pre fl I don't get the speed option

Boooo. Sorry.

I had to code it in with VCDS (car thinks it's in Australia now) to get the MPH option.
