New owner of skoda octavia RS 2015. Using trolley jack?

Featured Replies

I think the idea of the groove-in-the-puck started with an earlier version of the Octavia, where the weight of the car was meant to be taken by a reinforced area of the bodywork, located either side of the base of the seam strip. The seam would sit happily inside the groove, preventing it from getting damaged. Without a groove, the seam strip could easily fold or get bent during jacking.

Skip forward to the MKIII, where the seam strip has now been reinforced into a "vertical web". This vertical web is designed to take the whole weight of the car directly on its bottom edge. In my opinion, there is no longer a reason for a groove, and a simple rubber jack pad is just fine. Assuming you're not using a cheapo death-trap trolley jack (e.g. the common red one with yellow handle), which have quite a small jacking cup, and have invested upwards of 100£/€ on a model with a decent sized jacking cup, then I don't see any risk of the car slipping off an un-grooved rubber jack pad.

EDIT: Bleary-eyed typo

Check out Biltema for both jack and runner pad.

I have a bit of wood with a groove in it that fits to the sill seam. The groove is only 1/2" deep, it just helps with locating.

The wife was going to knock a puck up at work from a soft plastic that will fit in the jacks cup and have a groove in it for the same purpose.

I must stress you do not want to be lifting on the sill itself only the reinforced part of the seam.

Exactly. That's where I'm heading. They have one which is 100mm in rubber that has small lines in it. It looks perfect for the job!

It it's the beige one (Ø 100 x 30 mm), I wouldn't recommend it (I had one and it split).

I now have the round black one with raised dots on it  (Ø 120 x 25 mm). It's on the lower-right in the picture containing three jack pads:

(Also in Swedish, at least for now  ;) , click the flag in the top left corner  )

I have this one from the same page. It's soft enough not to damage anything and to stay perfectly in place once you place it correctly and start lifting the car with it.

The jack pads from ECS Tuning did NOT fit my 2015 Octavia Wagon. The grommet was too large and did not fit into the underbody holes which is a shame as it seemed a very elegant solution. However I have obtained a jack pad adapter from inapinchweld.com which rests on the saddle of my floor jack and engages with the picnchweld jacking point of the car perfectly. Just takes a bit of getting used to that all that weight of the car on the pinch weld.

Hope this is a help.
