No Service History Advice

Featured Replies

Mrs is changing her car for an MR2. Im keeping my Furby VRs :)

however the car we have seen is at a Toyota Dealer, is 3 years old and only 7500 VMC checked miles on the clock. The car looks as new but no service history:(

Anything I should look for or at that mileage will it be ok?

Thanks

Is there no history as the car has never been serviced, or just no documentation to back up (annual?) services? I guess it also depends what kind of warranty it comes with as Toyota's are pretty bullet-proof, but it may give you that peace of mind.......

When you say it has no service history, do you mean it's not been serviced, or there's no service book.

Not servicing a 3 year old car is not very good (don't know the service schedule, but I bet it's before 3 years). May be able to haggle some money off.

No service book may be a sign of something slightly more iffy.

Get them to service it and haggle some more warranty. If they're so sure of the quality of the car they won't mind ;)

The car has no service in the book except the one done by the dealer when it came in. I negotiated money off and a Toyota warranty which is very comprehensive.

In the absence of a service history how is it possible to warrant the mileage, and how can it qualify for a manufacturer's warranty? What is the dealer's explanation for the missing service history? I have been buying secondhand cars for long enough (ie 42 years) to be very wary in such circumstances. JM2PW.

If the car is at a main dealer then surely they can check via Toyota UK whether the services have taken place and stamp and date the service book accordingly. You could also try phoning the previous owner - they may have reciepts at home they forgot to keep with the car.

Good Point, The Dealer should have no problem with you checking with the previous owner however under the Politically correct society we live in they may have to ring the previous owner & get them to call you

Even if the dealer isnot a main Toyota dealership you can still heck the service history yourself. Toyota UK should be able to help you if not try the deal where it had it's PDI done for any history.

I'd also make sure you have in writing that they will honour the warrenty regardless of it's history

Also, the dealer's computer system should have a record of any work done on the car. A skoda dealer faxed me a print out from their system when I bought my car.

How much are they asking for it??

In my experience, I have just traded a 3yr old Celica in for the Fabia, Toyota are very very good at warranty and reliability.

The engine will be the vvti like mine was, it needs oil changes every 10k with a service at 20k intervals. The vvti needs to rev so needs yearly/or 10k changes.

But really it is down to how it was looked after.
