Regarding add-on graphics card

Featured Replies

Just bought an Asus Nvidia Geforce GT610 graphics card for playing a game (TS2015), and it comes with this "widget" which allows you to overclock the card.  Now I know nothing about over clocking, so I was just wondering the merits (or not) of making an adjustment.  Please don't use geek speak if you answer 'cos I'm a silver ( well bald actually) surfer, and computers are not exactly my thing.  I've managed to fit the card ok, and it works great as far as I can tell, but is set on the default atm.

TIA

If you don't know what your doing then leave it, you will only end up frying the gfx card. If it suits you for what you need it to do then leave it :)

They supply the tool, but using invalidates the warranty, so dont install or use it. The card should be good to use for a couple of years, by which time the warranty will have expired and you can play with the tool to try and eke out an extra years playtime.

Thank you both, I'll leave well alone, cheers!

My ATI card came with the same sort of thing. Tried it ramped up, tried it off didn't make much difference other than to make the damn thing hotter and the fan kicking in more.

using a third party overclocking tool/app will not invalidate the warranty.

the app will overclock the card in the os and does nothing to the cards BIOS so if it does die, the supplier/retailer could not tell unless you say

This - for all overclocking.

If you know what you are doing or are willing to spend time reading up about it and also willing to put up with a potentially shorter life for the card, great.

Otherwise leave well alone unless you fancy replacing the gfx card again. All too easy to bork something by changing a single setting without realising its effect.
