Driving up the motorway a minute ago and the abs and traction control lights came on is there anything worth checking out or is it just a case of chucking it on vcds again

Try vcds, could be abs sensor, but yeah vcds may help you pinpoint a starting place.

Turned it off and on again earlier and it was still on but parked it up for a few hours then came back and all normall again dunno what that is all about maybe some water got in somewhere or something very odd ☺

Not disconnected the MAF and run engine lately by any chance? Still be worth a quick scan, could be an intermittent sensor fault. See how it goes.
