Losing water slowly, is my radiator goosed.

Featured Replies

Hi:)

My coolant has been depleting slowly so I topped it up and left the car running on the drive to monitor it.

Once up to temp there is a faint few whiffs of steam coming up, from the area between the drivers side radiator fan & the engine block.

So I took it for a spin for 10 mins & rechecked. I then found the spatter shown in the pic.

I think the rad is leaking (but I can't see where) and then when driving the airflow is pushing it onto the fan. Then when the fan comes on its spraying it round showing the spatter effect.

What do you think? Anywhere else to check beforec go through the hassle of removing the rad?

The coolant dropped approx 10mm in 2 hrs.

yeh looks naffed i got a complete rad pack for sale in good condition

Looks relatively insignificant and I would have a good look, see if you can see where the leak is coming from, if it is the rad itself, I would consider whacking a tub of kseal through it. If it's a split pipe or bad joint, kseal won't really help and neither with a new radiator lol.

I can't see it coming from any pipes, or joins. I'll give the k seal a go.

If I'm going to the hassle of removing the rad I'll replace for new, thanks for the offer though.

Could be a simple pin-hole in one of the hoses. Unless it's "bad", you won't see it with the car idling. It would need revving, necessitating a helper.
