Cracked vRS DRL lens. -update

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just noticed one of my plastic DRL cover/lens is cracked, likely from stone-chip damage I suspect.

Anyone changed one of these themselves and was it easy to do or abit of a faff?

Or is it worth getting the dealer to do it and any idea on cost?

Cheers!

Tom

It's very easy, pull of the surrounding plastic cover with a trim tool and unscrew a couple of torx.

Very very easy.

Pull off the black plastic surround.

You will see what you need to do to change it.

There is a thread up top of the page with pictures, or i can bump it. Might get told off though.

*You could just use Clear Lense Repair Tape / Helicopter Tape / 3 M Clear / Fablon on it.

Do the other side as well so they match.*

Trim tool not required to remove surround, just be careful not to break, but they come off easily.

Be sure they go securely back on.

Spoke with my local dealer -£47 just to supply the new plastic DRL lens! Seems very excessive?

Anyone else had a price for one of these?

Maybe the £47 is for a whole DRL unit?

That is the Unit, be sure you get the correct side.

Is it too bad to cover in Clear Film to keep the water out and protect both sides a bit.

I have had 3 broken, but i got the replacements from crashed vRS with only one unbroken light.

I reckon thats a full unit. I hope so anyway.

It's fairly bad but might be worth trying the tape. Will post a pic up.

Haha just spotted this. Over a year later and I've still not bothered to do anything with the cracked lens! It's still exactly the same lol. Must get round to ordering a replacement..... :-)

With this new shiny one lol:

Remove the plastic cover, it pops off very easy:

Then undo 3 torx screws:

And remove the old unit and unclip the power cable from the rear:

Then plug in and screw the new unit back in place:

Replace the plastic cover and you are done!

Very very easy to do, pleased it's finally fixed haha.

Pm sent :)

I fly eyed my DRLs and it looks really good! Would of covered the damage. Great job though!
