BOV for vRS ?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm new here..
I recently purchased a brand new (stock) octavia vRS.
Now, I wish to install a blow off valve in order to get that awesome sound :P Problem is, I have seen somewhere that there is an issue with vRS and blow off valves and I should use a diverter instead..
So, since I'm not quite familiar with the issues, or the available/suggested products, I would like to know what can actually be done to achieve that sound, and also which product would you suggest?

Thanks all !

I know "Forge" had a diverter to the 2.0tfsi 200hp (1z) but I'm sure that wont work on mk3.

Have you tried with a cai?

What's a cai ?

Cold air intake.

Why?

Why?

Because, as he says, he ' wants the awesome sound'. (Psshhhhtt!)

And

As he says ' there is a problem'

Yes there is a problem.  All cars with a MAF mean if you fit a venting (is noisy) BOV you will run rich and get various problems (like a poisoned cat) as a result.

You might be able to make the current recirculating valve audible by changing the air intake and filter.

I am running a forge bov with NO issues haven't heard of any issues with them fitted

Which means I'll need to invest some serious cash right ?

So basically there is no bov-cost-wise solution as I understand it ?

Also, would you please care to explain a little more in detail regarding the problems I might have ? I'm all about learning ^^

From my understanding, the MKII isn't having any issues with it.. only the MKIII :(

To be fair I can hear a slight woosh from what i presume is the recirculating valve on my tsi when I have the windows down. An induction kit of some kind would probably make it louder if that's your thing

The MAF is before the turbo, so with a venting blow off valve a big slug of metered air goes 'pssccchhhhht!' To atmosphere on each throttle closure (gear change) but the ECU injects fuel expecting it to be entering the cylinders.  The result is a big spike of rich mixture.  The result is CO and other hydrocarbon emissions.  These probably won't cause trouble at an MOT emissions test, as that is done at constant revs, but over fueling can slowly poison the cat.  I'm not saying it will, but it can.  If it does, you will then fail your mot and have a bill for a new cat.

If you Google for venting vs recirculating bovs you'll find stuff that hints at various problems, I'm not sure what the other problems might be.... Other than if very rich slugs of mixture go in then combustion could be awful, engine stutter andbackfiring exhausts shooting flames.... You may think that's cool... Emulating the pop of Scoobies and evos.  However it's fairly unlikely I'd think.

Theoretically there are performance advantages to recirculation if done well.

If I want to know how loud the present set up could be, remove the filter, remove as much of the filter housing and pipework as possible and go for a short drive.

A performance filter and intake would be a few hundred quid, far cheaper than a new BOV I would think.

Oh and other things that affect the noise would be amount/volume of air dumped and it's pressure.  The octy has a moderately small turbo (so it isn't laggy) and Max boost isn't too high either I believe.   So what ever you do, you won't get a noise as loud as a scoobie or evo which have bigger turbos and higher boost.  Remapping might change the characteristics though.

Just noticed your in Israel..... MOT test is a yearly safety check done on all vehicles in the UK, and emissions are part of the test.  You may have something less strict.

thank you all and also neiln for the detailed explanation !

So, an APR intake system or an APR turbo muffler delete should do the job without hindering the cat or the performance ? and which one is actually the needed one ?

Not sure, why not an ask APR?  My guess is the muffler delete will make the turbo more audible cheaply but nothing more, the intake will be more costly but improve performance and make the turbo louder. You may well be able to do both, I'm sure APR will advise
