vRS TSI engine sounds.

Featured Replies

I just came by this video again (saw it over a year ago):

Reading the comments seems to confirm that the camera car is also a vRS - but! Those sounds - are they coming from the vRS? I've never driven a turbocharged petrol that sounded like that.

Particularly, that "sshhhh" sound that seems to coincide with the gear changing - is that typical of the vRS? And the vRS TSI in particular?

Thanks!

Sounds more the the camera car than the vrs. Mine doesn't sound anything like that, much quieter and more refined.

I think the noise comes from the Skoda RS200.

Definitely the camera car, very audible dump valve!

Ah, I knew it was too good to be true. :)

So, it's the blow-off valve for the turbo? If so, I presume one could tune theirs (read - replace with another) to get that sound? :)

Octy vrs turbo doesn't have a blow off valve / dump valve, so no.

I have a Forge one on my mk2...

It'll have a recirculating wastegate that will make some noise but hardly any.

I've really never been a big fan of BOV's, suits some very highly tuned "fast and furious" jap cars but not alot else.

I used to own a 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth which was running 320bhp at around 23-25psi of boost, I had a cold side dump valve relocation kit which placed it pretty much under one of the standard bonnet vents, when that dumped boost old people jumped and animals ran away  .

I've grown up now (well maybe), so waiting on delivery of my new 5E Octavia VRS, and I've been looking at remaps and an R600 intake system already

Men don't ever grow up, their toys just get more expensive.  :p

I fiddled around with the recirc valve on an Impreza turbo I had but the constant TISH TISH every time I changed gear got bloody irritating so I plumbed it back in properly :D

I used to have a dump valve on a 2.0 turbo 200sx. With the valve configured to vent to atmosphere, the car would over-fuel on gear change, resulting in flames shooting out from the exhaust. Surprised a few people with that [emoji1]

I need to get that TISH TISH somehow. :)

Forge 'tuneable' Diverter valve..... vents to atmosphere or recircs depending if you feel like living your life or just being a spectator....

does it lead to over fueling if the dump valve is venting to atmosphere?

Not that I noticed Neil... I had no issues, plus I bought it whilst still in warranty and the dealer had no issues with it either....

Where is the maf sensor on the mk iii? Is it in the same place as the mkii?  If so then I guess it would work on the mk iii too.  Other than the noise, what are the pros and cons of recirc vs vent?  I've no idea.  I know why it needs one or the other (to prevent compressor surge when the throttle closes and revs drop on gear change and cause a drop in air flow), but I don't know why some engines vent while others recirc

Its all down to the Blow off fitted. It would be a noisy place if they all vented.. .Guess its cheaper to mass fit recircs...

Yes since the air that is dumped has already be "read" by the maf, thats why you get a flame or puff of smoke on shifting
