Fabia not starting after fuel tank got empty

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Fabia 1.2 Ambiente TDI and now it is 4 years old. Last week while coming back from office its fuel tank got empty as I reached home. After that I am not able to start the car. I have thereafter filled it with 6 litres of diesel but still not able to start it. After browsing on net, it looks like the problem is caused because of air went in the fuel line.

Can anyone help me tell if this could be the reason and if yes, how to take the air out of fuel line?

Thanks

Varun

Try more diesel in as the pump may still be cavitating. I had something similar in a previous Toledo 1.9 TDI. Needed almost 10l in the tank before it could prime properly and fire. Took quite a few cranks as well

is there a primer on the diesel filter, if not could be worth filling the filter up with diesel also might have to bleed the injectors

Modern diesels should be auto priming. However, I don't know about the 1.2TDi. You could try adding fuel directly into the fuel filter housing as well

As Nathanio is saying, it's self priming and doesn't need any bleeding. The cause of the issue is too little fuel in the tank for sure and it's still sucking in air. Let us know how you get on.

I have put the 10 L of diesel in and tried after that but to no avail. Battery went down, got it recharged. Open the inlet for fuel filter but no oil is coming there on switching on.

Any inputs for the next steps?

I presume you mean diesel and not oil entering the fuel filter housing! Fill the fuel filter housing with fuel to get it to fire and that should help built pressure in the system and allow fuel flow. Get another 4 or 5l in the tank also

Also, make sure the car is on level ground. And if that doesn't do it, then the fuel line may be clogged with trash from the bottom of the tank. Some always gets past the tank filter.

get a new filter. if its the same as mine, even a good brand is quite cheap and extremely easy to swap. good starting point (if you pardon the pun)!

Have taken it to Service centre and the issue was resolved by correcting the error code on scanner. Thats it, really.

Wow bet thats the last time you do that :)

Do you still get this on modern cars?

I always thought you did, n avoid running my car low, but I've read on here that you dont? And the fuel feed is off the lowest part of the tank anyway?
