Changing load and speed rating?

Featured Replies

Morning

Bit of advice, please.

I'm looking to change the Yeti's summer tyres and am thinking of going with these

http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/michelin/crossclimate/225-50-r17-98v-346676

The Yeti has 94W load and speed but the crossclimates are 98V .

AFAIK you can increase the load but not the speed? Not that the wife will be going 149 mph in the yeti!

Thanks in advance

First off, you'd be reducing the speed rating by going from W (168mph) to V (150 as you say).

Given the higher load rating I can't see any technical issues, but talk to your insurers, since interweb companies may decline cover, and even the more technically savvy may treat your car as "modified" and seek an extra premium which might reduce or eliminate any savings from buying cheaper tyres.
