Door rest padding 2011 VRS

Featured Replies

Morning All :)

I'm wondering if anyone has replaced or added to the padding on the drivers door arm rest? I've been suffering with a sore elbow for a wee while and when I rest it on the arm rest when driving its not very comfortable :(

I'm not sure its possible to do so any advice or tips or badges greatly welcome.

My tip, which I suspect you will reject, is to hold the steering wheel with both hands at the 10 to 2 or 1/4 to 3 position.  Your elbow will then not be in contact with the padded area on the driver's door.  Similarly I have never understood the use of the central armrest by drivers.

Each to their own :) ....what's comfortable one might not be for another.....for me holding the wheel at three o'clock with my arm on the door rest is a comfortable position as is holding the wheel at 9 o'clock and resting my arm on the central armrest.

Be aware if the armrest is cloth, that it wears quite quickly.

I don't rest my arm on it, yet there is a wear patch on it and also on the passenger side. I can only presume it is due to people brushing against it getting in and out of the car.

As for a solution to your problem; what about a large microfibre cloth/towel folded up, secured by tucking into the plastic handle behind the window switches, and laid across the armrest?

Have thought about that Fin but wasn't sure as to whether it would stay in place without the need for duct tape or the like and I'm just a bit concerned that it might leave a horrible mark!

Even on modern vehicles the police and driving agencies claim you are not in full control of your vehicle if you do not have both hands on the steering wheel.

Try passing a re test with only one hand on the wheel unless the car has been modified due to mobility issues.

Stick a bit of velcro to the underside of the microfibre cloth.

I have seen leatherette pads that you attach to the door card for those that are inclined to rest their arms out of the window. Personally, I think that's creating a solution to a problem nobody had!

I do drive with both hands on the wheel its just the elbows that I rest on the arm and door rests :)

Thanks for the clarification, hope you find an acceptable way of providing comfort for same.

Good question. I was thinking of putting a silicone pad under it as I agree it is not comfortable.

Good to see so much concern about road safety too, even if unrelated.
