Tow bar Removal

Featured Replies

Hello,

My newly purchased octavia has a tow bar fitted which will be coming off.

Annoyingly, when indicating, the car beeps as they normally do when a trailer is connected, but there is no trailer connected. The beep / alarm is coming from the boot though, as if there is a special speaker back there.

Any ideas if this is normal and furthermore any tips on removing without causing electrical issues. Main mission is to get rid of the stupid beeping every time I indicate!

The main issue with removal might be that the bar will now form part of the structure of the car. Certainly when mine was fitted they removed and replaced the crash bar from behind the rear bumper, this was a fairly hefty chunk of metal about 4 feet long.  You are probably best off leaving the bar fitted unless you can just remove the tow hook bit.

The beeping without a trailer wired up suggests there's already an electrical issue, as I'm pretty sure it shouldn't do that. As ed209 says towbar fitment usually involves replacing part of the vehicle structure behind the bumper, so removal may be a bit more of a job than you would wish. The beeping though will be from a small unit probably located behind some of the trim in the boot so it may be possible to isolate or remove it.
