Columbus Sat Nav

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Can anyone give me a bit of information Please, I have a skoda superb elegant which I purchased second hand, It has a Columbus Sat Nav installed,

Problem I have is when I switch on sat nav it reads my home address as in Germany, Which is not correct I am in England, I have read manual and done things like delete memory etc and journeys, But as soon as I switch the sat nav off then back on it displays a map in Germany not uk

Any help please would be much welcome, Thanks very much

Satellites can be checked on the Columbus. Go to Extras, Split-screen, GPS Info. I might have the names slightly wrong, but it's definitely available.

are you saying that the columbus GPS shows the current position of the car in germany, or simply that your saved home address is in germany?

if it's the latter, then the home address can be set in:

navigation -> function -> manage memory -> define home address -> edit

If its home address that is wrong, see above.

Check satellites received (press 'Map' once to bring up the map and again to get to split screen. If the info doesn't come up press the title bar in the split screen and scroll down to select the lady one. 'GPS Info' IIRC.)

Then search for 'Regensburgh syndrome' as I suspect that is your problem.

Hi Guys

Thanks very much to all you good people for all your replies to my question

1 -  I have done what KBPhoto suggests and it displays  satellites  0 / 9    also  mode    No fix

3 - Is the sat nav not working properly because it can't or won't log onto satalite

Any more help on this ,Please

2 - I have also cleared memory and put in my own addresss , and ok saved ,then when I start sat nav again it shows the route from german to my address in England

Sounds like the antenna for the satellites is either disconnected or damaged. I got the same thing a few weeks back, but it fixed itself the next time I started the car. It happened again this morning, so I need to start looking this fault up myself :(.

Antenna problem.

Check it's connected. Whe you are there check the pin inside the blue plug on the back of the Columbus is present and intact.

Then clean it, reconnect it carefully and relocate the antenna onto the roof and try again.

I found having the antenna under the dash didn't work too well so relocated it to the inside of the roof at the top of the A-pillar.

It was much better after that.

I also discovered that the blue plug on the antenna cable was a bit loose on the Columbus and needed something to help hold it firm otherwise it would randomly loose satellites (usually at the worst possible moment).

Interesting - Is the plug in the back of the unit is easy to get to? I presume I just remove the surround, undo bolts and slide the unit out.

Is the GPS antenna actually in the dashboard behind the Columbus? How easy is it to reroute the wiring from there if I move it?

Fascia off, 4 Torx screws & slide it out.

GPS is the blue one.

If it's factory fit the antenna will be on the roof. If not, it'll be a puck under the dash.

If the latter, fairly easy to move. Remove glovebox (6 x Torx) and A-pillar trim (pulls off unless you have airbag logo on it, in which case there's a Torx screw under the logo).

Mine is factory fit, so will I find it in the sharkfin on the roof?

It should be.

Pull the headlining down a bit by the boot hinges and have a feel slightly to the left of the antenna and behind it (towards back of car) for the FAKRA connectors.

There should be three clipped into a plastic bracket. Try to tak a picture of them.

White = FM

Blue = GPS

Black = DAB

Burgundy = GSM (phone)

I'll hopefully get to this over the weekend - no GPS reception yesterday either. I'm replacing the bump stops on the rear shocks anyway, so checking this hopefully won't add much extra time.
