Yet again I would very much appreciate your helpful knowledge.

 

I have been reading up on some posts here that It is not advisable to mix different "dot" brake fluids when re-bleeding the brake system.

 

The scenario that I have is that I am about to undertake changing my rear discs, pads and rear passenger caliper as this has seized up.

 

Now! I am not fully sure of my car history and I am not sure what type of brake fluid it currently has.

 

So!, My question is that when I flush and bleed my brake system, will I also need to bleed the master cylinder for the clutch,

 

My initial thought about this is that if I only bleed the brakes not knowing what fluid is currently in, and I don't bleed the clutch cylinder then I might end up mixing two different fluids "or is the clutch cylinder on a different loop".

 

can someone kindly clear this up for me,

Yeah, bleed the lot. I'd recommend ATE SL6 DoT 4

If you're bleeding using a pressure kit then it'll just be a case of cracking the bleed nipple for the clutch I think. It's down on the gearbox near where the gear shift linkage attaches I think.

Correct me if i am wrong, but is bleeding the clutch also known as bleeding the master cylinder, or are they two different processes, and if so could anyone kindly let me know the order this routine should be done.

Just been doing some reading,

 

So basically,

 

connect eazybleed "with pressure", start by the furthest wheel away from cylinder, working way towards the most near wheel to cylinder, then bleed clutch, then bleed"am i correct in saying bleed both master cylinder nipples"?

Can anyone confirm if i have to loosen both bleed nipples on the master,?

They're right next to each other on the master cylinder so you might as well just to do a full job.

There's no big drama with mixing DOT 3 / 4  & 5.1 but they will take the form of the lowest spec fluid  eg: mix 180c DOT5.1 with 140c DOT3 and the end result should still be treated as DOT3.

 

You can't mix DOT5 (silicone based) with any of the DOT 3 / 4 /5.1Glycol Ether / Borate Ester based fluids.

 

The previously recommended ATE SL6 DOT 4 is great stuff.
